Visit Komodo Island: the walk, the rangers, the rules
Updated 23 October 2026
To visit Komodo Island with Kanha, join the Friday 3D2N: the ranger-guided dragon walk is the third stop of day 2, lasting 45 to 120 minutes. Sightings are likely but never guaranteed, and the park ticket is paid separately from the IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) shared fare.
Where Komodo falls on the Friday sailing
Komodo Island is the third stop of day 2 on the 3D2N, after Padar and Pink Beach and before Manta Point. On the 3D2N it is the trek to see Komodo dragons.
On a Friday departure, day 2 is Saturday. A private 2D1N and a 4D3N both include the Komodo walk. The route is the same on Kanha Citta, Kanha Loka and Kanha Natha, and the captain decides on the day how the weather shapes the order.
This page covers Komodo Island only. Rinca is not on the route.

The Komodo Island walk, step by step
Treks start at the Loh Liang ranger station. Short, medium and long trails exist, and most itineraries take the shorter ones. Plan for 45 to 120 minutes on foot, depending on the trail.
The ground is easy, and the difficulty is rated easy. The challenge is the sun: there is little shade on the trails, so closed shoes, long sleeves or sunscreen and water matter.
Wear shoes that close, not sandals. Trekking sandals are on the bring list for the boat, but the ranger walk calls for shoes.

Komodo rangers, groups and wild dragons
You do not walk Komodo without a park ranger. The ranger leads the group and sets the pace. The local guide who sails with a shared trip adds context, and a private charter can add one on request, quoted separately.
The dragons are wild, not a zoo exhibit. Sightings are likely but never guaranteed, and no booking can promise one. A group that walks quietly and keeps together sees more than a group that spreads along the path.
Visitors should follow the ranger's instructions at all times.
The Komodo park ticket and permits
Park entry is paid per person under PP 36/2024. International visitors pay IDR 250,000; Indonesian citizens pay IDR 50,000 on weekdays and IDR 75,000 at weekends and on holidays.
Park tickets and ranger fees are never part of a Kanha fare, on a shared trip or a private charter. Ranger and pier levies are paid separately and can change, so we show them in your quote and not on this page.
Bring your passport or ID on day 1, and carry cash for tips and small purchases.
Komodo walk kit, and who should skip it
Bring closed shoes, a hat, water, sunscreen and a light long-sleeved layer. A camera helps.
Guests who cannot walk in the heat for an hour or more should ask for a shorter trail on the island. A child must be old enough to follow the ranger's instructions without running ahead.
The Kanha edit. The dragon walk is the same on all three boats; choose the boat by company. For a gathering of 20 that will walk in two groups: Kanha Loka. For a quiet party of 8: Kanha Natha.

How long is the Komodo walk?
Plan for 45 to 120 minutes, depending on the trail. Short, medium and long trails start at the Loh Liang ranger station, and most itineraries take the shorter ones. The trail is set on the island, with the ranger, and there is little shade along the way.
How much is the Komodo park ticket?
International visitors pay IDR 250,000. Indonesian citizens pay IDR 50,000 on weekdays and IDR 75,000 at weekends and on holidays. Ranger and pier levies are paid separately and can change. Park tickets are never included in a Kanha fare, on the shared trip or a private charter.
