Komodo boat trip questions, answered

Updated 23 October 2026

These Komodo boat trip questions run to 70 answers in 13 groups, from choosing between Citta, Loka and Natha to flying in from Bali or Lombok. All three Kanha boats sail from Labuan Bajo, the shared trip departs every Friday, and a private charter is priced up to 10 guests with room for 20.

Ask your question Compare the boats

How the 13 groups are ordered

The first six groups follow a booking from start to finish: choosing a boat, cabins and bathrooms, what a whole boat costs, shared-trip places and Friday dates, paying and cancelling, and life on board. After those come route and season, park fees and extras, and groups and families. Last are a group for readers flying in from Bali or Lombok and one group for each boat.

Where something is still open, the answer says it is confirmed in writing. For cabins, that means bed sizes beyond the bunks and doubles; for charters, the start date and pickup point; for payment, 2027 dates. In the park group it covers the guide, the documentation and any drone permit, and for Kanha Natha it covers the photographs, which we send on WhatsApp.

Where the figures come from

Prices come from the owner's 2026 rate cards. Every amount here is drawn from the same data as the booking pages, so the two can never disagree. Per-person figures are a whole-boat price divided by the number of guests, rounded to the nearest ten thousand rupiah.

Deposit, refund scale, rescheduling fee and park fees follow our booking terms and the national park tariff, and they change here as soon as they change there.

Flight times are given as "about", not as promises. Check your airline's current timetable before buying a ticket.

A question we have not answered

Send it along with the three details that shape every answer: the boat you are leaning towards, or help me choose; your dates; and how many guests, on a shared trip or a private charter. Our reply names a boat, gives the price in the right unit and flags anything still to be confirmed in writing.

Hotels, flights and the beaches themselves each have their own guide in the planning section.

Cabins, beds and bathrooms

Does every cabin have a private bathroom?

The Sharing Cabins do not. Citta has 7 cabins with their own bathroom, Loka 6 and Natha 2. Citta's Sharing Cabin has 1 bathroom inside, Loka's has 2 just outside, and Natha's 2 Sharing Cabins use one shared bathroom outside.

How many guests fit on each boat?

On the shared trip, Kanha Citta and Kanha Loka each take up to 22 guests and Kanha Natha up to 12. Private charters are priced to 10 guests (12 on Natha), and Citta and Loka add a per-guest charge up to 20.

Which cabins have a private balcony?

The shared-trip cards show four: the Gayatri Room on Citta, the Master Ocean View and Family Ocean View on Loka, and one of Natha's two Private Ocean View cabins. Natha's other Private Ocean View opens straight onto the sun deck.

Can a third person share a private cabin?

Yes, wherever a cabin has an extra bed: the Gayatri and Shakti & Sedana rooms on Citta, the Master, Deluxe and Family Ocean View cabins on Loka, and both Private Ocean View cabins on Natha. The Deluxe Main Deck, the Superior Lower Deck and every Sharing Cabin have no extra bed. Extra-bed prices are on the cabins pages.

Is there air conditioning in the cabins?

Yes. Every cabin on Kanha Citta, Kanha Loka and Kanha Natha is air-conditioned, and all three boats list hot water.

What is a Sharing Cabin?

It is a cabin you share with other guests, priced per bed rather than per cabin. Citta's sleeps 8 in 4 single beds and 2 double beds; Loka's sleeps 8 in 4 double beds; Natha has 2, each with 4 single bunks. Any bed sizes beyond that are confirmed in writing before you pay.

Choosing your Kanha

Which Kanha boat should I choose?

Start with the mood of your party, then look at the numbers. Kanha Citta suits a lively gathering of up to 20 and has the Gayatri room, the only balcony cabin aboard. Kanha Loka suits families and reunions who need a bed for everyone, and has a Family Ocean View for 4. Kanha Natha suits 12 friends or fewer who want a quiet boat.

What is the difference between Kanha Citta and Kanha Loka?

Each takes up to 22 guests on the shared trip, with a bar area and a sun deck. Citta has 8 cabins, headed by the Gayatri master with its private balcony, and fares from IDR 4,800,000 (≈ USD 294) to IDR 9,000,000 (≈ USD 552) per person. Loka has 7 cabins, including a Family Ocean View for 4, with fares from IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) to IDR 8,400,000 (≈ USD 515).

Why is Kanha Natha smaller?

Natha is the small sister by design: 4 cabins, up to 12 guests, 5 crew, a dining area and a sun deck, and no bar area.

Do the three boats leave on the same days?

Yes. On all three boats the shared trip departs every Friday and runs for 3 days and 2 nights.

Do the three boats follow the same route?

Yes. All three follow one 3D2N plan: Manjarite, Kelor and Kalong on day 1; Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo and Manta Point on day 2; Sebayur and Taka Makassar on day 3. When the weather calls for it the captain changes the order, so your choice of boat decides the cabin and the company, not the stops.

Is this the official Kanha website?

No. PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia, NIB 1805260128363, publishes this site as the booking partner for the three Kanha boats, which belong to their owner. Quotes, invoices and questions about your booking come to us; once you are aboard, the owner and the captain run the boat.

Coming from Bali or Lombok

Do the boats leave from Bali?

No. The Kanha boats sail only from Labuan Bajo; none departs from Bali or Lombok.

How long is the flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo?

The direct Bali (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) flight takes about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. Garuda Indonesia, Batik Air, Citilink and Indonesia AirAsia have flown from Bali and Jakarta; timetables change, so check the airline's current schedule.

How many days should I plan from Bali?

Four. Land in Labuan Bajo on Thursday, sail on Friday, come ashore around 12:00 on Sunday and catch a flight home after 14:00 the same afternoon. An extra hotel night at either end is optional. The shared trip itself runs 3 days and 2 nights, Friday to Sunday.

Can I do Komodo in one day from Bali?

Not with us. The flight alone is about 1 hour 10 minutes each way, the boats start in Labuan Bajo, and the shared trip is a 3D2N from IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) per person. A full-day charter out of Labuan Bajo is available on request, but no price is published.

Is there a boat from Lombok?

Not one of ours. From Lombok, guests fly to Labuan Bajo and board there, as the Kanha boats start in Labuan Bajo only. Going overland means several days of buses and ferries, and we do not plan trips that way.

How do I get from Lombok or the Gilis to Labuan Bajo?

Fly from Lombok airport (LOP). The direct flight takes about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes on a small-aircraft Wings Air route, which rome2rio.com lists at about twice a day. Coming from the Gilis, get to Lombok airport first. Timetables change, so check each one.

What time should my flight land before a Friday sailing?

Land on Thursday, the day before. Friday's pickup is around 09:00, and a delayed or cancelled flight that morning would cost you the sailing. If you want a room for Thursday night, we book partner hotels.

What time can I fly home on the last day?

Any flight after 14:00 on the last day: the shared trip finishes around 12:00 on day 3, and the airport is about 10 minutes by car from the harbour area.

Groups, celebrations and families

What is the best boat for 20 guests?

Kanha Citta or Kanha Loka, since we book Natha for up to 12. A private 3D2N for 20 costs IDR 145,680,000 (≈ USD 8,937) on Citta and IDR 136,800,000 (≈ USD 8,393) on Loka, or IDR 7,280,000 (≈ USD 447) and IDR 6,840,000 (≈ USD 420) per person. On both, the guide and documentation are extra.

What if our group is more than 20?

We quote two boats separately rather than push either past 20 guests on a private charter. Kanha Natha can take up to 12 of you alongside Citta or Loka. Before you pay, we confirm in writing that both boats are free on your dates.

Do children pay, and from what age?

Children aged 0 to 2 travel free with a parent or guardian. From 3, they pay the full fare.

Can we celebrate a birthday on board?

Yes, and tell us the date early. Deck decorations, a special dinner and a photographer are quoted within hours, with nothing added unless you approve a written quote. Every boat has karaoke and a Bluetooth sound system, but a cake, a band or a surprise is promised only once confirmed in writing.

Which cabin suits a family of four?

Kanha Loka's Family Ocean View: one cabin that sleeps 4, with a private balcony and an ensuite. Shared-trip fare: IDR 6,000,000 (≈ USD 368) per person, minimum 4. On a private charter you have the whole boat anyway.

What is the cheapest way to fill a boat?

Take Kanha Natha with 12 friends. A 3D2N for the whole boat costs IDR 60,720,000 (≈ USD 3,725), which is IDR 5,060,000 (≈ USD 310) per person, compared with IDR 8,680,000 (≈ USD 533) each for the same 12 on Kanha Loka. Neither private price includes the guide or documentation, and park fees are extra on both.

Kanha Citta

How many cabins and guests does Kanha Citta have?

Kanha Citta has 8 cabins: the Gayatri Room, 2 Shakti & Sedana Rooms, 4 Deluxe Main Deck cabins and 1 Sharing Cabin. It takes up to 22 guests on the shared trip, with 7 crew, a restaurant and bar area and a sun deck.

What is the Gayatri room?

Gayatri is Citta's master cabin, with an ocean view, a private balcony, its own bathroom with hot water and an extra bed. It is the only cabin on Citta with a balcony and has the highest shared-trip fare, IDR 9,000,000 (≈ USD 552) per person, minimum 2 guests.

What does a private charter of Kanha Citta cost for 16 guests?

For 16 guests, a private 3D2N costs IDR 129,360,000 (≈ USD 7,936) for the whole boat, or IDR 8,080,000 (≈ USD 496) each. Guide, documentation and park fees are extra, and the start date is set in writing. The balance falls due 30 days before sailing.

Kanha Loka

How many cabins and guests does Kanha Loka have?

There are 7 cabins on Kanha Loka: the Master Ocean View, 2 Deluxe Ocean View cabins, the Family Ocean View, 2 Superior Lower Deck cabins and 1 Sharing Cabin. Up to 22 guests sail on Loka's shared trip, looked after by 7 crew, with a restaurant and bar area and a sun deck.

What is the Family Ocean View?

Loka's family room is one cabin that sleeps 4 guests, with its own balcony, an ensuite bathroom and an extra bed. On the shared trip the fare is IDR 6,000,000 (≈ USD 368) per person, and the cabin needs a party of at least 4 to book it.

What does a private charter of Kanha Loka cost for 12 guests?

For 12 guests, a private 3D2N on Kanha Loka costs IDR 104,160,000 (≈ USD 6,390) for the boat, or IDR 8,680,000 (≈ USD 533) each. The local guide, documentation and park fees are extra, and the dates are agreed in writing. A 50% deposit secures them.

Kanha Natha

How many cabins and guests does Kanha Natha have?

Kanha Natha has 4 cabins: 2 Private Ocean View cabins, one with a balcony and one opening onto the sun deck, and 2 Sharing Cabins with 4 single bunks each. It carries up to 12 guests and 5 crew, with a dining area and a sun deck but no bar area; for a party of 13 or more we suggest Citta or Loka.

Can I see photos of Kanha Natha?

We send Kanha Natha photos on WhatsApp on request, which is why the gallery has none. Ask in your first message, and say whether you want to see the cabins, the sun deck or the dining area. Until then, treat our description as words, not a photograph.

What does a private charter of Kanha Natha cost for 8 and 12 guests?

For 8 guests, a private 3D2N costs IDR 57,840,000 (≈ USD 3,548), or IDR 7,230,000 (≈ USD 444) each. For 12, the boat costs IDR 60,720,000 (≈ USD 3,725), or IDR 5,060,000 (≈ USD 310) each. Guide, documentation and park fees are extra, and a party of 13 or more needs Citta or Loka.

On board

Are meals and drinks included?

On all three boats the fare covers meals on board, free-flow coffee and tea, mineral water, shampoo, soap and a towel. Other drinks and snacks, travel insurance, personal spending and tips for the crew and guide are not included. No set menu is promised.

Is there a bar area?

Kanha Citta and Kanha Loka have a restaurant and bar area. Kanha Natha has a dining area and a sun deck, without a bar.

What snorkelling equipment is provided?

All three boats carry snorkelling gear, life jackets and a first-aid kit. Give us your sizes in your first message and we will confirm in writing. If you prefer your own fins, bring them.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Assume there is no Wi-Fi aboard. Mobile signal is patchy between the islands, so leave video calls for dry land. A Telkomsel SIM card is worth having.

Can we sing karaoke?

Yes. Kanha Citta, Kanha Loka and Kanha Natha all have karaoke and a Bluetooth sound system.

Park fees, guide and photographs

Is the Komodo park fee included?

No. Park fees are paid on top of every fare. Entry costs IDR 250,000 per person per day for international visitors and IDR 50,000 for Indonesian citizens (IDR 75,000 at weekends), under PP 36/2024. Ranger and pier levies come on top of that.

Who pays the ranger fee?

You do. Ranger charges and other levies at the pier or on the islands are paid separately and can change; we tell you the current amounts when you book.

Is a guide included on a private charter?

No. On a private charter the local guide is an optional extra, quoted separately on request.

Are photos or video included?

Yes on the shared trip, where documentation comes with the local guide. No on a private charter: photo and video documentation is available on request and quoted separately, so ask before you sail if you want it. The same rule applies on all three boats.

Can I fly a drone?

Flying a drone requires a park permit. Ask us before the trip and we confirm the permit and its cost in writing. Nothing is added to your fare until you have that written quote.

What costs extra on top of the fare?

Outside the fare: park fees, flights, hotel nights, travel insurance, personal spending, tips for the crew and guide, and drinks or snacks. On a private charter, the local guide and documentation cost extra as well. A decorated deck or a special dinner is quoted within hours and never added without a written quote.

Paying, cancelling, 2027 and the replacement boat

How much is the deposit and when is the balance due?

A 50% deposit confirms the booking, with the balance due 30 days before sailing. If you book inside that window, you pay in full straight away. Prices include 11% VAT, and a single invoice goes to the trip organiser.

What is the cancellation scale?

It depends on how early you cancel. At 60 days or more before sailing you get back 50% of what you paid; between 59 and 30 days, 25%; under 30 days, nothing. Travel insurance with cancellation cover is the only protection for the rest.

What if the boat cannot sail?

If a breakdown or an order from the harbour master or the park stops the boat, you move to a phinisi of equal or better standard on the same dates, at no extra cost. Otherwise we refund you in full within 14 days.

Can I book 2027 dates now?

2027 rates and dates are on request. The prices shown are those on the 2026 rate cards. Give us the month and the size of your party, and we confirm in writing what is available.

Can a company receive an invoice?

Yes. PT Komodo Explorer Indonesia, NIB 1805260128363, issues the invoice in whatever company name you give us when you accept the quote.

Can I move my date?

Moving 30 days or more before sailing is free, subject to availability. Between 29 and 14 days, the fee is IDR 500,000. With under 14 days to go, a move counts as a cancellation under the scale. We confirm the fee and the new date in writing.

Route, timing and season

How many days do I need for Padar and Pink Beach?

Both are on day 2 of the 3D2N route: Padar first, then Pink Beach, Komodo and Manta Point. The shared trip runs three days and two nights, so with a Friday start you reach them on the Saturday.

What are the best months to sail Komodo?

The dry season, roughly April to November, brings calmer seas and clearer water. July and August are the windiest and busiest months. Mantas are seen most from around December to February and July to September. These are general operator figures, not a guarantee, and on the day the captain decides.

What time is pickup and where?

On day 1, pickup is around 09:00 from your Labuan Bajo hotel or Komodo Airport (LBJ); on day 3, drop-off is around 12:00. Your itinerary gives the exact time. For a private charter, we agree the pickup point and time with you in writing.

Is airport pickup included?

Yes. Transfers from the airport, your hotel or the harbour, and back again at the end, are free both ways, with the times agreed in writing.

Where does the boat sleep at night?

Where the boat spends the night depends on the weather and the captain's decision that day.

Is Manta Point guaranteed?

No. Manta Point closes day 2, but whether mantas appear depends on tide and current, so no sighting is promised. The captain picks the moment on the day. Month and current count for more than which boat you choose.

Shared trip seats and Friday dates

How much does a shared Kanha trip cost per person?

The 3D2N is priced per person, by cabin. A Sharing Cabin bed is IDR 4,800,000 (≈ USD 294) on Citta, IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) on Loka and IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) on Natha. At the top end, the best private cabin is IDR 9,000,000 (≈ USD 552) (Gayatri), IDR 8,400,000 (≈ USD 515) (Master Ocean View) and IDR 7,200,000 (≈ USD 442) (Private Ocean View). Park fees are extra.

Which day does the shared trip leave?

Every Friday, on all three boats. The dates block on the shared-trip page shows which Fridays are running.

How many guests must book a private cabin?

On the shared trip, private cabins are priced per person and need at least 2 guests; Loka's Family Ocean View needs 4. A solo guest books a bed in the Sharing Cabin instead, which is priced per bed.

Is the guide included on the shared trip?

Yes. The shared trip includes the local guide and photo and video documentation, neither of which comes with a private charter.

Where does the shared trip meet and when does it end?

You are collected around 09:00 on day 1 from your Labuan Bajo hotel or the airport, and dropped off around 12:00 on day 3. Your written itinerary confirms the exact place and time, so landing on Thursday is the safe plan.

Can I join for two days or four?

Not on the shared trip, which runs 3D2N only. Both the 2D1N and the 4D3N are available as private charters, priced per boat, so ask for a quote if your party wants a shorter or longer sailing. The quote lists the stops for either length.

Whole-boat charter

How much does a whole Kanha boat cost for 12 guests?

For a private 3D2N with 12 guests, Kanha Citta costs IDR 113,040,000 (≈ USD 6,935), Kanha Loka IDR 104,160,000 (≈ USD 6,390) and Kanha Natha IDR 60,720,000 (≈ USD 3,725). Per person, that comes to IDR 9,420,000 (≈ USD 578), IDR 8,680,000 (≈ USD 533) and IDR 5,060,000 (≈ USD 310). Local guide, documentation and park fees are extra.

How many guests can a private charter take?

Citta and Loka are priced in bands of 1 to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 10 guests, then charge per extra guest up to 20. Natha's bands are 1 to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 12, and we book her for up to 12. A party of 13 or more needs Citta or Loka.

What does each extra guest cost on Citta and Loka?

From the 11th guest up to the 20th, each one adds IDR 4,080,000 (≈ USD 250) to a Kanha Citta 3D2N and IDR 4,080,000 (≈ USD 250) to a Kanha Loka 3D2N. The 2D1N and 4D3N charters have their own add-on, shown on your written quote.

What happens to the price between 9 and 12 guests on Natha?

It stays put. One band covers 9 to 12 guests, so a 3D2N costs IDR 60,720,000 (≈ USD 3,725) for the boat whatever the number. With 9 guests that is IDR 6,750,000 (≈ USD 414) each, with 12 it drops to IDR 5,060,000 (≈ USD 310). Each extra guest lowers everyone's share.

Is a private charter priced per night or per boat?

Per boat, by length and group size. The 2D1N, 3D2N and 4D3N each have their own price for 1 to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 10 guests (9 to 12 on Natha).

Can I choose any start date on a private charter?

Yes, there is no Friday rule on a private charter. We agree the start date with you and confirm it in writing, provided the boat is free, and the exact pickup point and time go into your itinerary. Only the shared trip is tied to Friday.
