Komodo tour packages: what is inside and what is not

Updated 23 October 2026

A Komodo tour package is a boat trip with extras bundled, and the lines differ from seller to seller. A Kanha shared fare, from IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) per person for 3D2N, includes pickup, meals, snorkelling gear, the local guide and documentation. Flights, hotel, park tickets, tips and insurance are not in it.

Price my package See what is included

Three package shapes: shared, private, with a hotel night

Most offers fall into three shapes. A shared trip sells you a cabin on a fixed sailing, with other guests in the other cabins. A private charter sells the whole boat to your party. A package with a hotel night wraps either one with a room in Labuan Bajo the evening before.

We sell the first two and book the hotel room beside them, quoted in the same message. We do not sell flights. That split matters when you read any offer, because the word package can mean a boat only, a boat plus transfers, or a boat plus a hotel and a flight.

Read the shape before the price. A figure that looks low on a shared offer and one that looks high on a private offer are answering different questions, and neither says anything about the other until the inclusions are laid next to each other.

The shared trip leaves every Friday on Kanha Citta, Kanha Loka and Kanha Natha. A private charter can start on another day, agreed in writing, and is priced by group band: 1 to 4, 5 to 8 and 9 to 10 guests, with an add-on per guest above that on Citta and Loka. Natha is priced to 12.

What a Kanha shared fare includes

Per person, the shared fare covers your cabin for 3 days and 2 nights, plus pickup around 09:00 on day 1 and drop-off around 12:00 on day 3, from or to your hotel or the airport. Meals are served on board, with free-flow coffee and tea and mineral drinking water.

Shampoo, soap and a towel are listed, a small line worth looking for in any offer. Snorkelling gear, life jackets and a first-aid kit are on board. The local guide and the photo and video documentation come with the shared trip.

Private cabins are priced per person with a minimum of 2 guests, and the Sharing Cabin is priced per bed. Children aged 0 to 2 travel free; from 3 the full fare applies.

Included

  • Hotel / airport pick-up and drop-off in Labuan Bajo (around 09:00 on day 1, around 12:00 on day 3)
  • Liveaboard boat with air-conditioned cabins
  • Meals on board
  • Free-flow coffee and tea
  • Mineral water
  • Shampoo, soap and towel
  • Snorkelling equipment
  • Life jackets

Not included

  • Flights to and from Labuan Bajo
  • Komodo National Park entrance and ranger fees
  • Personal expenses
  • Crew and guide gratuities / tipping
  • Travel insurance
  • Hotel stays in Labuan Bajo
  • Drinks and snacks other than those listed as included
  • Private charter: local guide and photo/video documentation (on request, quoted separately; both are included on the open trip)

What it never includes

Flights, the hotel night, travel insurance, personal expenses, drinks and snacks beyond what is served, and tips for the crew and guide sit outside every Kanha fare. So does the national park. The entry ticket for foreign visitors is IDR 250,000 per person per day; for Indonesian citizens it is IDR 50,000 on weekdays and IDR 75,000 at weekends, under PP 36/2024.

Ranger fees, pier levies and a drone permit are paid separately and can change, so none is quoted here. The park ticket and the ranger fee appear as their own lines on your quote, never folded into the fare.

On a private charter, the guide and the photo and video documentation are also outside the fare. They are available on request and quoted separately.

Reading any package, line by line

Hold two offers side by side and read the same eight lines in each.

  • Days and nights. Count the nights, not the headline. A 3-day package with 2 nights is a 3D2N.
  • Pickup. Hotel, airport or harbour, and at what time.
  • Park ticket and ranger. In or out. A fare that leaves them out looks lower and is not.
  • Guide and documentation. Included, extra or absent.
  • Cabin. Named, with its balcony or deck, or just the word cabin.
  • Meals and water. Meals on board is a fact; a menu is a promise. Know which one you are reading.
  • Boat change. What happens if the boat cannot sail.
  • Who you pay. A named company, against an invoice.

An offer that fails two of these lines has not found a lower price. It has postponed part of the bill.

Per person versus per boat

A shared fare is a seat. A private charter is a boat, priced by group size. With 12 guests, Kanha Loka costs IDR 104,160,000 (≈ USD 6,390) for the whole boat, or IDR 8,680,000 (≈ USD 533) per person, for 3D2N. Kanha Natha costs IDR 60,720,000 (≈ USD 3,725), or IDR 5,060,000 (≈ USD 310) per person.

Set that against a seat. A full Kanha Natha is cheaper per head than its Private Ocean View cabins on the shared trip, at IDR 7,200,000 (≈ USD 442) per person. On Kanha Citta, 16 guests come to IDR 8,080,000 (≈ USD 496) each, below the Gayatri room at IDR 9,000,000 (≈ USD 552). Kanha Loka at 12 stays above its Deluxe Ocean View at IDR 7,800,000 (≈ USD 479), so the whole boat wins only from a larger party.

One sentence belongs after every crossing. The private charter excludes the guide and the documentation, and the shared trip includes both. A lower figure per head is not the same package.

If you want the private charter and the guide as well, ask for the guide in the same message. It arrives as its own quoted line, so you can see what the whole boat costs with and without it.

Questions to ask before you pay

Put these to any seller, including us, and keep the answers in writing.

  • Which cabin am I paying for, and who sleeps next to it?
  • Is the park ticket on the quote as its own line, and in whose name is it issued?
  • Is the guide included, and is photo and video documentation included or extra?
  • What is the pickup point and time on day 1, and the drop-off on the last day?
  • If the boat cannot sail, what do you give me, and by when?
  • Who is the company, what is its NIB, and where does the invoice come from?

Ask for the answers by message, not by phone. A written reply is the one you can hold the seller to, and it is the one we send you, with the quote.

Our own answers sit on the booking and services pages: the replacement-boat guarantee, the deposit scale and the list of what is quoted separately.

FAQ

What does a package for Komodo include?

It depends on the seller, which is why the lines matter. A Kanha shared fare includes the cabin for 3D2N, pickup and drop-off, meals on board, coffee, tea and mineral water, snorkelling gear, the local guide and documentation. Flights, hotel, park tickets, tips and insurance are never in the fare.

Are park fees included in a package?

Not in a Kanha fare. The entry ticket for foreign visitors is IDR 250,000 per person per day, and for Indonesian citizens IDR 50,000 on weekdays or IDR 75,000 at weekends. Ranger and pier fees are paid separately and can change. Each appears as its own line on your quote.

Is a package with flights from Bali available?

We do not sell flights. We book the boat and, beside it, a hotel room in Labuan Bajo, then advise on the flight: Thursday to Labuan Bajo, home on Sunday after 14:00. You buy the air ticket from the airline, which keeps the fare visible and the date in your hands.

Is a package worth it compared with booking separately?

A package is worth it when every line is named and the price sits in one place. Booking the pieces yourself is worth it when you want control of flights and dates. Either way the test is the checklist above: cabin, pickup, park ticket, guide, boat change and a named company.

Does a private charter include the guide?

No. A private charter includes the boat, crew, meals and snorkelling gear. The local guide and the photo and video documentation are not included, are available on request and are quoted separately. The shared trip includes both, so compare a private quote and a shared fare line by line.
