Padar Island from Bali: the ridge walk on day 2
Updated 23 October 2026
Bali to Padar Island is a flight of about 1 hour 10 minutes to Labuan Bajo, then a boat. Padar is the first stop of day 2 on the 3D2N, with a viewpoint climb of 25 to 45 minutes. The shared trip leaves every Friday from IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) per person.
Where Padar falls on the Friday sailing
Padar is the first stop of day 2 on the 3D2N, ahead of Pink Beach, Komodo Island and Manta Point. On a shared trip that leaves on a Friday, day 2 is Saturday morning, so the ridge is the first thing you do after the first night aboard.
The route is the same on Kanha Citta, Kanha Loka and Kanha Natha. The captain decides on the day, and weather can move the order of stops. Where the boat spends the night depends on the weather and the captain's decision that day.

Getting from Bali to Padar Island
No Kanha boat leaves from Bali or Lombok. Padar lies inside Komodo National Park, and the boats start in Labuan Bajo. The direct flight from Bali takes about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. Check the airline's current timetable.
We plan the week as Thursday to Sunday. Land on Thursday, sleep in town, and join the Friday sailing at around 09:00. Padar comes on Saturday. The drop-off is around 12:00 on Sunday, and a flight home after 14:00 fits.
There is no Padar-only trip from Bali. The island is one of nine stops on the route, and reaching it needs the boat.

The Padar ridge walk, step by step
Padar is a viewpoint, not a beach stop. The classic view looks over three bays with differently coloured sand, and the climb to the main viewpoint takes about 25 to 45 minutes. The upper ridge takes longer.
The difficulty is moderate. Parts of the path are loose and steep, so sturdy shoes matter more than the right camera. There are no dragons on Padar; the dragon walk is on Komodo Island, later the same day.
Park tickets are never part of a fare. International visitors pay IDR 250,000, Indonesian citizens IDR 50,000 on weekdays or IDR 75,000 at weekends, and ranger and pier levies are paid separately and can change.

Padar at first light
Padar is a sunrise stop. The walk begins about 65 minutes before sunrise, so a head torch is part of the kit. Sunrise falls around 05:30 in November and 06:20 in July, and the range across the year is 05:31 to 06:18.
The start time therefore moves through the year, and the table below gives each month. A wet-season morning can be cloudy, and the captain can shift the stop if the sea is rough.

Padar's steps: who should stop below the viewpoint
The climb is a short effort in the heat, and its steps are steep. A guest with knee trouble, a very young child or anyone without shoes with grip should expect to stop below the viewpoint, or to give the walk a miss. Nobody is obliged to go up.
Padar is also the first stop after a night aboard, so the early start is part of the cost. A party that dislikes early alarms is better served by a plan that treats it as a one-morning effort and not a habit.
The Kanha edit. The Padar morning is the same on all three boats, so choose the boat by company, not by the walk. For a party of 14 to 20: Kanha Loka or Kanha Citta. For six friends who want the boat to themselves: Kanha Natha.
