Updated 23 October 2026

The Kanha Komodo boat tour 3 days 2 nights opens with Manjarite, Kelor and the Kalong sunset on day 1. Day 2 brings Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo and Manta Point, and day 3 ends at Sebayur and Taka Makassar. The shared trip sails every Friday, with fares from IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) per person.

Day 1: Manjarite, Kelor and the Kalong sunset

Pickup is around 09:00 from your hotel or the airport in Labuan Bajo. Boarding and a safety briefing come first, and then you are on the water. The order for day 1 runs Manjarite for snorkelling, a trek on Kelor, and Kalong Island at sunset.

Kelor is a small, hilly islet and the nearest stop to the harbour on this route. Its path is dry and steep, the climb takes 15 to 30 minutes, and a viewpoint over the bay waits at the top. Shoes that grip matter more here than the camera.

Kalong closes the day. Thousands of flying foxes roost in its mangroves, and you watch them from the deck rather than walking ashore. About 15 minutes after sunset they lift off, and the stream lasts roughly 30 minutes.

Dinner is served on board. Where the boat spends the night depends on the weather and the captain's decision that day.

Day 2: Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo and Manta Point

Day 2 is the long one, with four stops, and the route starts at Padar. You set off on foot about 65 minutes before sunrise, which falls between 05:31 and 06:18 depending on the month, so pack a head torch. The main viewpoint is 25 to 45 minutes up, and from there you see three bays, each with sand of a different colour.

Next comes Pink Beach, for snorkelling and an hour on the sand. Fragments of red coral give it the tint, which reads pale pink rather than bright. Komodo Island follows: a walk with a park ranger to look for the dragons, which are wild animals and never guaranteed.

Manta Point is the last stop of the day. You snorkel along the reef with the current, and we say it plainly: no one can promise you a manta. The current is strong, so the stop suits confident swimmers, and there are life jackets on board for everyone else.

Dinner is on board again.

Day 3: Sebayur, Taka Makassar and home by midday

The last morning is lighter. Sebayur Island is a snorkelling stop with beaches and reef close by, and because it lies outside the dragon area there is no trek. Then Taka Makassar, a crescent of sand ringed by shallow reef.

That sandbank only shows at low tide. At high tide it can sit underwater, and the stop turns into a snorkel over the reef. Shade is scarce out there, so bring a hat and reef-safe sunscreen.

Drop-off in Labuan Bajo is around 12:00, at your hotel or the airport. A flight home after 14:00 leaves a comfortable margin; anything earlier puts the Taka Makassar swim at risk.

On some routes Manta Point and Taka Makassar trade places with the tide. On this route the captain keeps Manta Point on day 2 and Taka Makassar on day 3, unless the sea says otherwise.

Flights around a Friday sailing

The shared trip leaves every Friday, so for a guest coming from Bali the sensible week runs Thursday to Sunday. Land in Labuan Bajo on Thursday, sleep in town and be ready for the 09:00 pickup on Friday. This is the Friday sailing, and the dates below show which Fridays still have room.

Bali to Labuan Bajo is a flight of between 1 hour 10 and 1 hour 20 minutes; from Lombok, allow 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes. Confirm the times with your airline.

Sunday's drop-off is around 12:00, which makes any flight after 14:00 workable. 2027 dates are on request.

What moves with the weather on a Komodo boat tour 3 days 2 nights, and who decides

The itinerary carries its own caveat: the weather can change it, and any adjustment is discussed with the captain, who makes the call on the day, and the order of the stops is the first thing to shift.

Of all the stops, Manta Point depends most on the sea. Tide, current and season decide whether mantas turn up, and no booking can promise one. Sebayur and Taka Makassar answer to the tide and the sea state in much the same way.

Kanha Citta, Kanha Loka and Kanha Natha all sail this route, shared or private. A private party can ask for changes, which are talked through with the captain and confirmed in writing before you pay. On a shared trip, the route stands.

Should a breakdown, the harbour master or the park keep the boat in port, we act straight away. You sail the same dates on a phinisi of equal or better standard, at no extra cost, or we return your money in full within 14 days.

FAQ

How many days do I need for Padar and Pink Beach?

Three days and two nights. Padar and Pink Beach both fall on day 2 of the 3D2N route, followed by Komodo Island and Manta Point. A 2D1N private charter also reaches Padar and Pink Beach, but it leaves out Manta Point, Sebayur and Taka Makassar.

Is Manta Point guaranteed?

No. Nobody can promise a manta sighting. It depends on tide, current and season, and the better months are roughly December to February and July to September. The stop is a snorkel along the reef with the current, best suited to confident swimmers.

Where does the boat sleep?

Where the boat spends the night depends on the weather and the captain's decision that day, so we name no anchorage in advance. Dinner is on board on day 1 and day 2, and the captain explains the evening's plan once the weather has settled.

What time are pickup and drop-off?

Pickup is around 09:00 on day 1, from your hotel or the airport in Labuan Bajo, and drop-off around 12:00 on day 3, back to either. Any flight home that leaves after 14:00 fits comfortably around that, and the exact times are confirmed in your written itinerary before you sail.

Is the route different on a shared trip and a private charter?

On paper it is identical: Manjarite, Kelor and Kalong on day 1, then Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo and Manta Point on day 2, and Sebayur and Taka Makassar on day 3. A private party can ask the captain to adjust it; a shared trip sails it as listed.

Does Kanha Natha sail the same route?

Yes. Kanha Natha, Kanha Citta and Kanha Loka follow the same 3D2N itinerary. What differs is the boat, not the stops: Natha sleeps up to 12 and has no bar area, while Citta and Loka sleep up to 22.
