Komodo from Bali: how many days to plan
Updated 23 October 2026
Plan four days for Komodo National Park from Bali: fly to Labuan Bajo on Thursday, join the Friday 3D2N shared trip, priced from IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) per person, and fly home on Sunday after 14:00. The flight takes about 1 hour 10 minutes, and every Kanha boat starts in Labuan Bajo.
Komodo National Park from Bali: four days, Thursday to Sunday
Four days, Thursday to Sunday, is the answer. Fly in on Thursday and spend one night in a Labuan Bajo hotel. Board on Friday around 09:00, sleep two nights on the boat, and step ashore around 12:00 on Sunday, in time for an afternoon flight home.
Three days looks fine on paper and falls apart in practice. Pickup for the shared trip is about 09:00 on day 1, at your hotel or the airport. A Friday arrival leaves no room for a late aircraft, a slow baggage belt or a missed pickup.
One limit to state first. The Kanha boats sail from Labuan Bajo only; none of them departs from Bali or Lombok. Bali is where your journey starts, not where the boat does.
| Day | You sleep | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday | Hotel in Labuan Bajo | Fly Bali to Labuan Bajo, check in, rest |
| Friday | On board | Pickup around 09:00, then Manjarite, Kelor and Kalong at sunset |
| Saturday | On board | Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo and Manta Point |
| Sunday | Home, or one more night in town | Sebayur and Taka Makassar, drop-off around 12:00, flight after 14:00 |
Flying Bali to Labuan Bajo: about 1 hour 10 minutes
Bali (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) is a direct flight of about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. Both airports keep Central Indonesia Time, so your watch stays as it is.
Several Indonesian airlines fly the route, and timetables change, so check the current airline timetable for the first and last departures before booking.
On Thursday, pick a late-morning or midday departure over the last flight of the day. If that final aircraft is delayed you could land in the evening, and Friday's pickup will not wait.
Komodo Airport is a short drive from town, roughly 10 minutes by car from the harbour area. We help with routes and timings but do not sell air tickets, and since fares change daily we quote none here. Your airline has the current price.
Landing day and the hotel night
Thursday afternoon has a single task: arriving in good shape. Collect your bags, take the short drive into town and check in. Hotels stretch from the Marina waterfront to Pede Beach and up into the hills, and our hotels page sorts them by area and pickup.
Cash matters more than it seems. There are ATMs along the main road near the harbour and in the airport arrivals hall, but none on the islands, so draw your rupiah before Friday. Mobile signal drops in and out between the islands, so video calls from the boat are off the table.
The name on your passport has to match the boat's passenger list, because the harbour issues an electronic boarding pass in that name. Send us your passport details when we ask, and bring the passport itself on Friday morning.
Pack from the bring list: sunblock, sunglasses and a beach hat, a dry bag and swimsuit, trekking sandals, wet wipes and any personal medicine. Shampoo, soap and a towel are waiting on board.
Friday to Sunday on the boat
Kanha Citta, Kanha Loka and Kanha Natha all follow one route. Day 1 covers Manjarite for snorkelling, Kelor for a short trek and Kalong at sunset, when the flying foxes take off. Day 2 takes in Padar, Pink Beach, Komodo Island and Manta Point. Day 3 finishes at Sebayur and Taka Makassar.
On the day, the captain decides the order of stops, and the weather can change it. Where the boat spends the night depends on the weather and the captain's decision that day.
Pick your boat by mood. Kanha Citta and Kanha Loka take up to 22 guests each and have a bar area. Kanha Natha takes up to 12, with two Private Ocean View cabins, two Sharing Cabins of 4 single bunks and no bar area. On the shared trip, the local guide and photo and video documentation are included.
The calendar below lists the Fridays that are running.
Shared trips leave every Friday.
Flying home on Sunday after 14:00
Sunday decides the whole plan. The boat is back around 12:00, and only then comes the transfer to your hotel or the airport. Book your flight home for after 14:00 and the trip ends at a walk, not a run.
Anything earlier is a gamble with your seat. Weather and the captain's calls can shift the stops, and a long final morning at Taka Makassar eats exactly the minutes an 11:30 flight would need.
If an international flight out of Bali comes next, give yourself breathing space. Either land in Bali on Sunday evening with the night free, or stay a Sunday night in Labuan Bajo and fly on Monday. Swap a rushed afternoon for a dinner in town.
If you only have three days, or six
With three days, fly in on Thursday afternoon and treat Thursday as the half day it is. The boat still sails on Friday, so a plan that begins on Friday morning in Bali simply does not work.
Six days give the sailing some room. Arrive Thursday, sail Friday to Sunday, then spend two nights ashore in Labuan Bajo or back in Bali before flying out. Parties who want their own start day can book a private charter of 2D1N, 3D2N or 4D3N, with the start day and pickup set in writing.
Two things can upset any plan: Nyepi, when Bali's airport shuts for 24 hours, and the weeks when the harbour authority halts sailings at short notice. Check both before you buy flights.
The Kanha edit. Four days, two people, a quiet boat: Kanha Natha. Four days, a party of 20: Kanha Loka or Kanha Citta on a private charter, because we book Natha for up to 12.
FAQ
How many days do I need for Komodo from Bali?
Four days, Thursday to Sunday. Fly to Labuan Bajo on Thursday and sleep in a hotel, join the shared trip around 09:00 on Friday, and step off on Sunday around 12:00, with a flight home after 14:00. A private charter of 2D1N or 4D3N changes the count, with the start day agreed in writing.
Do the Kanha boats leave from Bali?
No. Kanha Citta, Kanha Loka and Kanha Natha sail only from Labuan Bajo; none departs from Bali or Lombok. From Bali, take the direct flight of about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, bought from the airline, and check its current timetable before booking.
Can I see Komodo in one day from Bali?
The shared trip is 3D2N, and no one-day price is published for the Kanha boats. A day that starts in Bali spends most of its hours in the air and in airports. Our day-trip page explains what one day can and cannot hold; for the boat, plan on four days.
What time should my flight land before a Friday sailing?
Land on Thursday, the day before, by early afternoon at the latest. Pickup is at around 09:00 on Friday, from your hotel or the airport, so arriving on Friday's first flight leaves no margin for a delay. Choose a late-morning or midday departure from Bali over the last flight of the day.
When can I fly home on the last day?
After 14:00. The boat returns around 12:00 on day 3, and the transfer to your hotel or the airport comes next. Weather and the captain's decisions can move the stops, so anything earlier puts your seat at risk. Staying a Sunday night in Labuan Bajo and flying on Monday takes the pressure off.
Is there a time difference between Bali and Labuan Bajo?
No. Both airports run on Central Indonesia Time (WITA), so your phone's clock stays the same. That keeps Thursday simple: a flight of about 1 hour 10 minutes lands the same afternoon, leaving time to check in and rest before the Friday pickup around 09:00.
