Planning guides for a Komodo trip from Bali or Lombok
Updated 23 October 2026
Our komodo tour planner is four guides: Komodo from Bali, Komodo from Lombok and the Gilis, what a Komodo tour package includes, and the beaches of the park. Every guide assumes the boat starts in Labuan Bajo and the shared trip leaves on Friday, from IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) per person.
The komodo tour planner: four guides, in the order a traveller needs them
A trip planned from Bali or Lombok turns on four questions, and each has its own guide. The first is how many days to plan and how to reach the boat from Bali. The second does the same for Lombok and the Gilis. The third lays out what a tour package includes and what it leaves out, so that two quotes can be read line by line. The fourth walks the beaches of the park, from Pink Beach to Taka Makassar.
Each guide ends with the next step, which is always a message to us.
Komodo from Bali: how many days to planFour days from Bali: fly to Labuan Bajo on Thursday, sail the Friday shared trip, fly home on Sunday after 14:00. The boats start in Labuan Bajo. Plan it.
Reaching a Komodo boat from Lombok and the GilisLombok to Labuan Bajo is about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes by air. The Kanha shared trip sails every Friday from Labuan Bajo, never Lombok. Plan Thursday.
Komodo tour packages: what is inside and what is notA Komodo tour package should name its boat days, meals, guide and park ticket. See what a Kanha shared fare covers and what no fare does, before you pay.
The beaches of Komodo National Park, by boatPink Beach, Kelor, Sebayur and Taka Makassar are the beach stops on the 3-day Kanha route. See which day each falls on and what to wear in the water.
Which guide to read first
Staying in Bali? Start with Komodo from Bali; it ends with a four-day plan from Thursday to Sunday. Based in Lombok or the Gilis, begin with the Lombok guide, which begins by saying what we do not run.
If you already hold two quotes and cannot tell them apart, go straight to the package guide. If the boat is settled and you only want to know which beaches to look forward to, the beaches guide is the short read.
The Kanha edit: for most readers the order is Bali or Lombok first, packages second, beaches last.
What every guide assumes
Every guide starts from the same two facts. The Kanha boats sail from Labuan Bajo only, so no guide describes a Bali or Lombok departure. And the shared trip leaves every Friday, three days and two nights, with dates shown through the dates block rather than typed into a page.
Flight times and ferry reports are written as about, and no fare is typed because fares move daily. Check the airline's or ferry operator's current timetable before you book.
FAQ
Do I need to read all four guides?
No. Read the one that matches where you start: Bali or Lombok. The package guide helps when you hold more than one quote, and the beaches guide helps once the boat is booked. Each guide stands alone and ends with the next step, a message to us.
Are the flight times in the guides promises?
No. Flight times and ferry reports are written as about. Schedules change, so check the airline's or ferry operator's current timetable before you book, and never plan a Friday sailing around a flight that lands that morning.
Does any guide cover an overland route from Lombok?
Only to say what it is: several days of buses and ferries, which we do not plan trips around. The Lombok guide recommends flying to Labuan Bajo first, because the Kanha boats start there and nowhere else, and it says so in its first section.
