Komodo in one day: what is possible if you stay in Bali

Updated 23 October 2026

A day trip to Komodo Island from Bali is not something we sell: the flight to Labuan Bajo takes about 1 hour 10 minutes and the boats start there. A full-day charter from Labuan Bajo is quoted on request; the 3D2N shared trip starts from IDR 4,500,000 (≈ USD 276) per person.

A day trip to Komodo Island from Bali: the flight arithmetic

The direct flight from Bali (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) takes about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. Airlines change schedules, so check the current timetable before you plan anything around it.

The airport sits 2 to 3 km from town, about 10 minutes by car from the harbour area. Landing is therefore not the slow part. The boat is. Kelor, the nearest stop on our routes, is about an hour by boat from the harbour, and you have to come back the same way.

Put a flight in each direction around a day on the water and the margin for a late aircraft disappears. Flights are delayed and cancelled often enough that the standing advice for every Kanha trip is to arrive in Labuan Bajo the day before. A same-day return from Bali asks you to ignore that advice twice.

So we do not sell it. No Kanha boat leaves from Bali or Lombok; every trip starts in Labuan Bajo.

A full-day charter from Labuan Bajo: a sample route, quoted on request

If you are already in Labuan Bajo with one free day, a full-day private charter is possible on request. It has no published price and no product page, because the day is built around your hotel, your party and the weather.

A sample day would run Kelor, Rinca and Manjarite, with the boat back in Labuan Bajo before sunset. That is a sample, not a Kanha route. The captain and our team confirm the stop order in writing before you pay.

A private charter includes the boat, crew, meals and snorkelling gear. The local guide and photo and video documentation are not included; they are available on request and quoted separately. Park tickets and ranger fees are never part of a fare. International visitors pay IDR 250,000, and Indonesian citizens pay IDR 50,000 on weekdays or IDR 75,000 at weekends. The park package we quote per guest already holds the ranger, the local levies and the entrance ticket of IDR 250,000 per foreign visitor per day (PP 36/2024), paid on top of the boat price unless your quote says it is included.

Kanha Natha takes up to 12 guests. For a larger party, ask about Kanha Citta or Kanha Loka.

Which stops fit in daylight

Daylight favours the stops near the harbour. Kelor is a 15 to 30 minute climb to a viewpoint over the bay; Manjarite, a snorkelling stop on the 3D2N route, sits 30 to 60 minutes of sailing from Kelor. Together they make a full day without a rush.

Padar does not fit. Its ridge walk begins about 65 minutes before sunrise, and the sunrise range is 05:31 to 06:18 across the year. That is a morning for the second day of a 3D2N or the third day of a 4D3N, not for a day charter.

Kalong is the same story in reverse. The flying foxes leave the mangrove about 15 minutes after sunset, so a day that must end before dusk never sees them. The sample day has no night aboard, which is why Kalong at dusk belongs to the 3D2N.

Komodo Island needs a ranger and a longer day than a short sail allows. On our route it falls on day 2, with Padar and Pink Beach before it.

When two days or three is the better plan

Two days fit a private party that wants a short break: see the 2D1N page for the sample route and the whole-boat prices. Three days are the shape of the route, and the only one sold as a shared trip, every Friday.

For a guest starting in Bali, we plan the week as Thursday to Sunday: fly to Labuan Bajo on Thursday, sail Friday to Sunday midday, fly home after 14:00 on Sunday. That is the answer to the question this page started with.

The grid below lists the nine stops of the 3D2N. If your wish list is Padar, Pink Beach and a dragon walk, it needs the second day of that route; a single day cannot hold it.

FAQ

Can I do a Komodo day trip from Bali?

Not as a Kanha trip. The flight from Bali to Labuan Bajo takes about 1 hour 10 minutes, and our boats start in Labuan Bajo, never in Bali. With flights each way, a same-day return leaves no margin. We plan Bali guests as Thursday to Sunday instead.

How much does a full-day Komodo charter cost?

A full-day charter has no published price. It is quoted on request once we know the date, the size of your party and the boat. The captain and our team confirm the stops in writing, and the guide, documentation and park tickets are quoted or paid separately.

Is the park ticket included in a day charter?

No. Park tickets are never part of a Kanha fare, on a day charter or any other trip. International visitors pay IDR 250,000; Indonesian citizens pay IDR 50,000 on weekdays or IDR 75,000 at weekends and on holidays. The ranger and local levies are already inside the park package.

Which Kanha boat suits a day charter?

Kanha Natha takes up to 12 guests, and Kanha Citta and Kanha Loka take larger parties. We confirm the boat when we quote the day, because the choice depends on your party size, your date and the stops you want. Ask for the quote with the number of guests and the day you are in Labuan Bajo.
